Ronaldinho eyes World Cup berth

Former Barcelona midfielder Ronaldinho says he is vying for selection in Brazil's 2014 World Cup squad, despite a ten-month absence from the national team.

Ronaldinho, 32, was part of Brazil's 2002 World Cup winning team and he is adamant he can still make an impact for Luiz Felipe Scolari's side.

"There is no feeling greater than playing at a home World Cup in front of one's own fans and I do not want to lose that opportunity," he said. "I'm confident and I still have a great passion for football and for Brazil, which leads me to try to return to the team I most love.

"I want to be part of the World Cup. It would be the greatest moment of my life and the lives of many in Brazil. I want to regain my old form and I know that I can contribute to the team. It is my priority to make sure I'm ready if and when the chance to play appears."

Ronaldinho was selected in the Brasilerao team of the year recently after a consistent season with Atletico Mineiro.

His last international appearance was in February when Brazil suffered a 2-1 friendly loss to Bosnia and Herzegovina, largely due to the number of young talents rising through the national ranks.

Ronaldinho's standout performances at the 2002 tournament helped him secure a deal with Barca just a year later and he believes the World Cup is a perfect opportunity for some of Brazil's players to make their mark.

"The World Cup will be a great platform for players as talented as Neymar and Leandro Damiao to present themselves to the world as I did in 2002, and I will offer all my experience to help them," Ronaldinho said.
