Kombouare plays down Bordeaux link

Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Antoine Kombouare has ruled out an immediate return to Ligue 1 after being linked to the job at Bordeaux.

Sacked by PSG last Christmas despite having guided the club to the top of the table, Kombouare, 49, took a break from football before returning to the dug-out at Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal last June.

Though Bordeaux reportedly see him as a potential replacement for Francis Gillot, whose contract ends in the summer and is reportedly Lille-bound, Kombouare has no thoughts of heading back to France.

"I would like to stay, because there are the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League from September. It really is something here. You can come up against South Korean teams, Australian sides," Kombouare, who penned a one-year deal last summer with an option for a further season, told L'Equipe. "I'm very, very happy. I'm continuing my adventure both personally and professionally."

Before moving to the Parc des Princes, Kombouare had built his reputation at Valenciennes, bringing the club into and then establishing it in the top flight. Though his spell in the capital slightly tarnished his image, the ex-defender, who played for PSG for five seasons, feels no bitterness towards the club.

"From the outset, it was logical the investors bring in their men. Their first decision is to take the key posts of president and coach in order to see through their project," he said. "It's the people who move, not the structure. PSG is not the club of Kombouare or Ancelotti. In this line of work, there is a start and always an end."
