Pardew calls for Ferguson ban

Alan Pardew has called for the Football Association to take action over Sir Alex Ferguson's misconduct towards officials during Manchester United's 4-3 win over Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Ferguson avoided sanction from the FA after launching an angry tirade against linesman Jake Collin following Newcastle's second goal, before confronting referee Mike Dean at half-time.

Pardew, who was fined £20,000 and handed a two-match touchline ban for pushing assistant referee Peter Kirkup in September, believes the FA should overturn their decision to reprimand Ferguson and establish consistency in their punishments.

"I think Mike Dean might feel slightly disappointed he didn't do something about it," Pardew said. "I think the pressure that was on him was tough for a referee to take.

"Sometimes when you reflect on a game you think you might have acted differently. You do that as a manager and I think he might have done that as a referee.

"But it's an emotional game and apparently they had a cordial discussion. I've had a few of those myself and sometimes I've ended up in the stands as a result of that cordial discussion.

"I think there were a lot of things the FA could look at. But it seems they are looking at none."

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini and QPR manager Harry Redknapp are under investigation following post-match comments about the referees' performance in their respective losses on Wednesday.

Redknapp was frustrated after his side had a penalty appeal turned down in the 2-1 defeat to West Brom.

"I asked the linesman how he didn't see that penalty - it was the most blatant handball you could wish to see but he said it was murky down there in that corner and he couldn't make it out," he said. "Maybe he should go to Specsavers. I thought they were both awful decisions. Scandalous decisions."
