Brazilian outfit Corinthians are set to launch a bid for AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato in the first week of January, club president Duilio Monteiro Alves has confirmed.

Pato has been heavily linked with a move away from the San Siro since a spate of injury troubles have plagued him over the past 12 months.

Reports in Brazil claim a €15 million transfer is in the offing, and Alves insists Corinthians will provide the right environment for the 23-year-old to rediscover his best form.

"A lot of people know about his potential on the pitch," he told ESPN Brasil. "He is an exceptional player. Our medical department and physiotherapists are already following Pato and are going to work with him.

"We hope that in the first week of January we can give him as a gift to Corinthians' fans."

Initial talks between the two clubs have already taken place, with Milan vice president Adriano Galliani saying: "The meeting went very well but the negotiations are still not complete. We’ll meet again in Sao Paulo at the end of the year.”

Pato joined Milan in 2007 and has since amassed 151 appearances for the Rossoneri, though his time in the Serie A has been marred by fitness concerns.
