Brad Friedel signs new Spurs deal

Veteran Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a new deal with the club, keeping him at White Hart Lane until the end of the 2013-14 season.

Spurs announced that the American had signed the contract on their official website. Friedel also addressed his new deal in a message to his twitter followers.

His tweet: "Very happy about the new contract! As I have always said I'm very happy here and will help Spurs in any role!!"

The Premier League's oldest player at 41, Friedel will be 43 when his deal expires. He is the only man in the history of the division to make in excess of 300 consecutive starts.

His new contract comes at a time when he has lost his place as Spurs' No. 1 keeper, with summer signing Hugo Lloris having replaced him as manager Andre Villas-Boas' first choice.

Friedel came to England in 1997 with Liverpool, but moved to Blackburn three years later after failing to make an impression at Anfield and made in excess of 300 appearances for Rovers.

Aston Villa bought him for £2.5million in 2008 and the goalkeeper stayed with them for three seasons, before heading to Tottenham last year.

He also won 82 caps for the United States.
