Toure: City have spirit of 'Invincibles'

Kolo Toure believes Manchester City have the same never-say-die spirit as the Arsenal 'Invincibles'.

• Blog: City wake up in nick of time

The Ivory Coast international was part of the Arsenal side who went through the 2003-04 season unbeaten in the Premier League as they claimed the title.

And the defender sees a similar refusal to accept a setback in the current City group, who sit second in the Premier League.

City scored a 93rd-minute winner against Reading on Saturday, with Gareth Barry striking in injury time, and Toure believes it is proof of their character.

"It was the same at Arsenal, that team who were the Invincibles," he said. "We just knew when we were losing or drawing, we could get the crucial goal. We have the same winning mentality here. We never accept drawing or losing a game.

"It's really important to be calm because we know we can score at any time. We have so many attacking players who are capable of scoring. This time it was a midfielder who scored."

City have made a habit of scoring late goals, with Barry's decider against Reading following Edin Dzeko's late winners against Fulham, West Brom and Tottenham earlier in the season.

And Toure added: "We just keep believing we will score. The belief comes from the quality players we have. Last season we know about the crucial goals we got late on and this time, Gareth Barry came and did the same."
