Allegri not fazed by Milan defeat

AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri admits he was not surprised by the Rossoneri's 4-2 defeat at Roma on Saturday, insisting it simply reflects his side's fortunes this season.

• Blog: Milan in ruins

Milan found themselves four goals down after 61 minutes, with Nicolas Burdisso and Pablo Osvaldo adding to an Erik Lamela brace for the hosts.

Allegri's men pulled two late goals back through a Giampaolo Pazzini penalty and a Bojan Krkic strike, but it was not enough to lift Milan above their sixth-placed opponents.

But the Italian hit out at critics who claimed the result proved Milan are not capable of challenging for a place in Europe next season, claiming the club is where it should be.

"I think Giallorossi are one of the best teams in Italy and I am amazed we are so close to them in the table," he said. "People think we go from the stars to the gutter in a millisecond.

"Don't forget we went into this game with four wins and a draw in six games. Of course we can do better and the club will certainly do something in the transfer window, but it's not as if we were challenging for second place before this defeat.

"Sometimes games go against you and we contributed to the result, but at the end of the day I think Milan played a good game.

"Roma deserve credit for making the most of the space we left and we know how dangerous Zdenek Zeman's teams can be in these situations."

With a 3-0 deficit at half-time, Allegri conceded that the three points were surrendered when his players surged forward to chase the match.

"We definitely have to improve our defending from set plays, while we were too disorganised and hasty in attack," Allegri said. "After the break we were trying to get back into the game and conceded another two goals against the run of play, while the Roma goalkeeper had to perform quite a few tough saves."

Milan remain in seventh place, seven points behind fifth-placed Napoli.
