Nene to quit PSG

After being frozen out of Carlo Ancelotti's squad, Nene has publicly announced his intention to quit Paris Saint-Germain in January.

• Blog: PSG win ugly

Since showing his displeasure at being among the substitutes for PSG's Champions League game with Porto in early December, the Brazilian midfielder has missed his club's last three Ligue 1 matches.

Even Ancelotti's claim that Nene would have featured in his matchday squad to face Lyon last Sunday but for a calf injury failed to dampen speculation the player would quit the Parc des Princes six months before the end of his contract. The 31-year-old has now made clear his intention to do just that.

"I love Paris, PSG and its fans, who have always treated me with a lot of respect," declared Nene on his official website. "Personally and through social media, I have received a number of messages from fans asking me to stay. It's a difficult decision to take, but I think it's time for my career to follow a new path."

The former Santos player, who has finished PSG's top scorer in both his league seasons in the French capital since his summer move from Monaco in 2010, has been linked to Inter Milan as well as Istanbul sides Besiktas and Galatasaray.

He is set to return to his native country for the festive period, and Brazilian outfits Corinthians, Flamengo and Sao Paulo are reportedly favourites to secure his future services, with the latter - according to Brazilian daily Folha de Sao Paulo - having already agreed personal terms.

If Nene has his way, they will not even have to pay a fee for him. "I think we'll reach a deal [with PSG] and I'll be freed from the remainder of my contract," Nene said.
