Bradford ousted by Brentford

Bradford City, who were recently reinstated to the FA Cup after a brief expulsion, failed to capitalise on their second chance against Brentford on Tuesday, losing 4-2 after extra-time to miss out on a place in the third round.

The Bantams, who are already in the Capital One Cup semi-finals thanks to a shock victory over Arsenal, were removed from FA Cup competition after fielding an ineligible player in their initial second-round draw with Brentford.

Later reinstated upon appeal, they took the lead in the replay through Kyel Reid but saw that advantage wiped out by half-time through a Marcello Trotta penalty. It went to an extra 30 minutes and Alan Connell struck a second for Bradford, only for Trotta to restore parity again with his second.

Brentford then led for the first time in the contest through Clayton Donaldson's 103rd-minute effort, and another substitute, Harry Forrester, scored 16 seconds into the second period of extra-time to ensure they will now face a trip to Southend in round three.

Barrow and Macclesfield will need a replay for the right to host Cardiff in the third round after they drew 1-1 at Holker Street. The visitors led after 19 minutes when Kieran Charnock capitalised on a goalkeeping fumble, but they were pegged back by Richie Baker's direct free-kick.

John Paul Kissock and Adam Boyes both hit the bar in a tight game, so a replay will be scheduled for Moss Rose on December 29.

Rotherham can look forward to a clash with Aldershot after they overcame 10-man Notts County 3-0 at Meadow Lane. Ben Pringle and Mark Bradley both scored prior to the sending-off of Damion Stewart, after which Daniel Nardiello netted a third to kill the game off. Pringle's opener was a fine 25-yard strike, and it did not take long for Bradley to add the second from close range. Stewart saw red for an elbow on Alex Revell, and the game was over by half-time as Nardiello converted from 10 yards.

And Oxford United will host Sheffield United in the next round after they beat Accrington Stanley 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium. James Constable and Peter Leven settled a poor game in favour of United.

Constable's opener came in the 66th minute as he headed home in clinical fashion. He then turned provider for Leven, who volleyed home a magnificent second from the edge of the area.
