Sao Paulo snap up Lucio

Sao Paulo have signed veteran Brazil defender Lucio, just a day after he was released by Italian giants Juventus.

Lucio has only made one Serie A appearance since joining Juventus in the summer
Lucio left Juventus on Monday

Lucio, 34, struggled to settle as a reserve in Turin and will be presented to his new fans on Wednesday at the Morumbi Stadium after agreeing a two-year deal to move back to his homeland.

"A player with this quality and profile will certainly further qualify our squad to compete in the major international competitions we will have next season," vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes told the club's official website.

The 2002 World Cup-winner was a key figure in Inter’s 2010 treble-winning campaign and has international pedigree despite his ageing legs.

"Lucio is an old dream for Sao Paulo. We came very close to signing him in July, but in the end it wasn't possible," club director of football Adalberto Baptista added.

"Hopefully this time everything has gone well and he gets to add a lot of quality, experience and leadership to our squad.”
