Betis see off Celta Vigo

Real Betis kept up their challenge for a top four finish as Jorge Molina's goal ten minutes from time was enough to hand them a 1-0 victory away at Celta Vigo.

• La Liga: Sunday review

The hosts had the best opportunity of the first half as Iago Aspas fired just wide, but Betis carried a greater threat after the interval and finally made the breakthrough late on

Nacho's low cross found Molina just inside the area and the striker showed great presence and no little skill to turn and fire low past Javi Varas into the bottom corner.

Augusto Fernandez, Gustavo Cabral and Mario Bermejo then all passed up glorious opportunities as Celta pushed for a late equaliser, but a second straight defeat sees them remain just two points above the drop zone.

Deportivo La Coruna continue to prop up the Primera Division standings after being held to a goalless draw at home by Real Valladolid.

A first victory in six league games would have lifted Depor out of the relegation zone but they could find no way through the Valladolid backline and had to settle for a solitary point, taking their tally up to just 12 from 16 matches.

It might have been a different story if Depor winger Diogo Salomao had made the most of a great chance late on but he somehow fired over when it had looked easier to score.
