Tube strike threatens Boxing Day action

West Ham have told ESPN it is "99% certain" their Premier League match at Arsenal on Boxing Day will be called off after the proposed London Underground strike was confirmed by the ASLEF union.

The strike - which has been called due to a row over Bank Holiday pay - would cause major problems for supporters travelling to Emirates Stadium, with a high number reliant on the Tube to visit the ground. The match could be rescheduled for January if it were cancelled.

Arsenal are yet to officially comment on the matter.

A similar set of circumstances saw the Gunners postpone their December 26 home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers by 24 hours. However, this season they are scheduled to play Newcastle on December 29, which would give them little more than 48 hours between the two games if the London derby against the Hammers is put back.

Queens Park Rangers, however, have confirmed that their game at home to West Bromwich Albion on December 26 will go ahead as planned.

A statement on the club's official website read: "The Boxing Day fixture against West Bromwich Albion will go ahead as scheduled, despite Tube services across the capital being affected by a drivers strike.

"The Barclays Premier League clash against the Baggies will kick-off at 3.00pm, although supporters are advised to allow extra time for their journeys to and from Loftus Road.

"Buses will be running on the usual Sunday/Bank Holiday service on the day of the fixture, whilst parking in the borough will be free."

Fulham are also due to face Southampton in West London on Boxing Day.
