Heynckes 'very happy' with Bayern draw

Thorben Marx's opening goal is cancelled out by Xherdan Shaqiri's strike as both teams settle for a point at the Allianz Arena

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes insists he was "very happy" with his side's performance as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach on Friday night.

Heynckes praise Gladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen for denying Bayern's attack time and again in Bavaria.

The visitors made the most of Ter Stegen's heroics, taking the lead through Thorben Marx's penalty in the first half before substitute Xherdan Shaqiri earned Bayern a share of the spoils in the 59th minute.

"I am very happy, even though we only drew 1-1," said Heynckes. "We dictated the game for 90 minutes, especially in the second half. We played outstandingly well and did not give Borussia an opportunity to score.

"It was definitely not easy to defend against them, but I think that we deserved to win because of our second-half performance.

"Ter Stegen was the best player on the pitch, he was outstanding. We had a lot of chances, but we were not able to take them. We did not leak anything defensively. I can't fault my team."

The result saw Bayern fall short of their own record for the best first half to a Bundesliga season, but puts them 12 points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
