Heynckes silent on Pep rumours

Ahead of Bayern Munich's Bundesliga game against Borussia Moenchengladbach on Friday night manager Jupp Heynckes again refused to comment on speculation about his future.

• Blog: Favre's Foals will be put to the test

Heynckes is currently in the last year of his contract and recent rumours suggest that Pep Guardiola could be Bayern bound in the summer. Former Bayern goalkeeper Oliver Kahn suggested in a newspapr column that Guardiola and Heynckes could form a partnership at the club, but Heynckes wouldn't be drawn into the discussion.

"Maybe Oliver Kahn joins us as president? You will not hear anything about my future. You must be patient until March," he said.

March had earlier been stated as the date when the club and Heynckes will meet to discuss his future.

Bayern and Moenchengladbach's meeting at the Allianz Arena will be a repeat of the first Bundesliga game of 2012, which Gladbach won 3-1. Almost a year on, Heynckes is happy with the character his side have shown in leading the league table.

"Never before in FC Bayern history was there a year with so many emotions," Heynckes said. "Especially, with losing the Champions League final at home. I can remember how it was written that we will not be able to cope with it. And then we converted everything into positive energy."

Last season Bayern finish second in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League but this seaosn they have shot ahead in the Bundesliga and became Herbstmeister [autumn champions]. By beating Gladbach they could put their names in the record books.

Only once in Bundesliga history has a club picked up 44 points in 17 games, Bayern in the 2005/2006 season.

"If we win the title, you can say, that was nice, that was outstanding. Right now it means nothing but that things we have changed have worked out," Heynckes said. "We not only have top players, but also a superior team."

Gladbach boss Lucien Favre has heaped praise on Bayern ahead of their game, labeling them one of the top three club sides in world football.

"They are a top team, currently alongside Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona they are the best team in the world," he said, before adding, "It is like always. We have respect, but never fear."
