Caparros frank as Mallorca slump

Real Mallorca coach Joaquin Caparros made his views plain after his side were hammered 5-0 at home by Sevilla in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, saying: "We are very f*****."

Caparros said he had no intention of quitting the free-falling club after watching the visitors, who had suffered poor recent results themselves, ease to victory thanks to two goals from Alvaro Negredo and further strikes by Gary Medel, Alberto Botia and Antonio Luna.

The result means Mallorca have not won in any competition since September, having taken only two points from the last 30 available in La Liga.

Caparros said: "We have not touched the bottom. I believe in the players and feel that they back me.

"We are very f*****, but we need to lift ourselves up and move forward for the game against Athletic on Saturday.

"If I fall seven times, I get up eight times. If I fall eight times, I get up nine times. You have to kill me."

He argued that the scoreline did not accurately reflect the pattern of a game in which his side had their own opportunities to score, including a penalty missed by ex-Tottenham midfielder Giovani Dos Santos just before half-time.

"[In the first half] we created three chances against Sevilla and we did not score," he added. "They also created three chances and they scored them. That is the difference that unbalances games."

Saturday's Primera Division game at home to Athletic Bilbao, who crashed out of the Copa to third tier Eibar on Wednesday, was a must-win game for Mallorca, Caparros said.

"If the opponent sees blood, he will want to put his fingers in where it hurts most and we cannot allow that," he said.

"On Saturday against Athletic we must win, because we really need to win a game. The players want to get out of this situation as much as I do. I have no doubt about that."
