Taarabt reluctant to miss ANC

Adel Taarabt has confirmed Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has requested that he does not represent Morocco at the African Nations Cup.

Taarabt, 23, is due to feature for Morocco at the tournament in South Africa, which begins on January 19 and ends on February 10.

Redknapp, though, is keen to have the midfielder at his disposal, such is the club's plight as they reside at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Taarabt is quoted in the Sun as saying: "It's a difficult decision because the manager asked if I could stay.

"I would love to but it's my country so if I say 'No', everybody at home will think I don't want to play - so I think I will go.

"I go to Morocco every summer. If they don't do well, the fans will have a go at me and I don't want that."
