Robinson confronted by Bees fans

Police have launched an inquiry into an incident that saw a group of Brentford supporters attempt to attack MK Dons manager Karl Robinson.

A group of around 20 fans approached Robinson after Brentford's 3-2 victory at Griffin Park at the weekend, with one throwing a pint glass in his direction as he approached the team bus. Stewards intervened to avert any injury to the Dons boss.

His agent, Rob Segal, said in the Daily Mirror: "It is horrendous. This is a very serious situation and it appears to be getting worse right throughout the game. We have to be able to protect managers as well as players from abuse and potentially violence."

Brentford chief executive Mark Devlin confirmed investigations were taking place to identify those responsible.

He said: "There was a minor incident when Karl Robinson was leaving Griffin Park on Saturday to get on to the Milton Keynes Dons' team coach. There was beer thrown towards him. The Brentford FC stewards and security staff dealt with the incident swiftly and professionally at the time.

"We are currently working with the Metropolitan Police to review all the CCTV and video footage from Saturday's match. This will enable us to ascertain whether any criminal actions have taken place and if further action needs to be taken against any perpetrators.

"Until this has happened, the club is not in a position to comment further."
