Gomis happy at Lyon

In-form Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis is determined to see out the season with the Ligue 1 pacesetters despite the club needing to cash in on its prize assets.

Gomis has been in fine form this season and is just four league strikes short of his 2011/12 tally of 14
Bafetimbi Gomis has already scored ten goals for Lyon this season

OL president Jean-Michel Aulas announced in late October "three players, two in the winter transfer window and one next summer" would have to leave the seven-time Ligue 1 champions to fill a €28 million hole in their budget. One of the most saleable members of the squad, Gomis, 27, told radio station RTL he had no intention of moving.

"I started out with the idea of ending the season here and doing better than last year," said Gomis, who is already just four league strikes short of his 2011/12 tally of 14. "You never know what can happen in football though. We are all aware that players may have to leave."

The expectancy that the athletic forward will be one of those who could be sacrificed to ease the club's financial plight has only been heightened by his rich vein of form this season. The French international forward had even been expected to leave last summer as part of the clear-out which saw established figures such as Hugo Lloris head for pastures new.

Gomis, valued by Aulas at the same €15 million Lyon paid Saint-Etienne for him in 2009, reportedly even turned down a move to Russia, preferring to remain at the Stade de Gerland.

"I'm happy here and I want to finish the season here," he said. "It's true that there are other leagues which I like and in which I'd like to play. But I'm not thinking about that now. I don't want to trouble myself with the idea of leaving."
