Wenger denies PSG rumours

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has moved to deny rumours that he is being lined up to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Paris Saint Germain boss.

Wenger has admitted in the past that the PSG job is one of the most attractive in world football and he believes the potential of the French capital city club could see them emerge as one of the new powerhouses in European football.

But the loyal manager is not a man who breaks contracts easily and he insists he has no interest in returning to his homeland for one final challenge just yet, even though reports in France have suggested he held a meeting with PSG chiefs last week.

"It is the wrong information, believe me," he told French TV station TF1. "They haven't contacted me and I think they must support Ancelotti. When a club is surrounded by rumours, it's because they are not strong enough and aren't in control of things. Anyway, I always honour my contract."

Le Parisien newspaper in France had reported that a meeting took place at the Hotel Monceau late last week between representatives of PSG owner Sheik Hamad-Al-Thani and Wenger.

However, they also reported that the Arsenal boss has long standing links with the Sheikh and acts as an adviser to the Al Jazeera television channel, so the meeting may not have been about Wenger's possible move to Paris.

Wenger's current contract runs through until the end of next season and while he has confirmed he will consider his position at the end of this season if he has failed to live up to his own high standards, it seems highly unlikely that he would walk out on the club any time soon.

However, PSG coach Ancelotti is getting used to living with almost permanent speculation over his future at the club, with Jose Mourinho and Wenger constantly being linked with his job, even though his side remained firmly in the hunt for the French title after beating lowly Evian 4-0 on Saturday.
