Estudiantes development role for Veron

Juan Sebastian Veron is to return to former club Estudiantes to overhaul the club's internal structures and implement a Barcelona-style youth academy, according to reports in Argentina.

Buenos Aires based sports newspaper Ole claims that Veron, 37, who began and ended his professional career at the La Plata club, will take up a position in charge of all football affairs next week.

Ole quotes the former Argentina, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Manchester United playmaker, who continues to play for local amateur side Brandsen, as telling club blog Laboratorio Pincharrata that he planned to implement a style of play at levels which would help bring kids through to the senior side.

"There is no playing style 'DNA' in Estudiantes' youth sides," Veron said. "A style which would permit the kids to arrive at the first team knowing perfectly what it means to play for this club, a style which is repeated at each stage."

Veron, who played his last game for the club in June, has held a series of meetings with Estudiantes president Enrique Lombardi in recent weeks to discuss plans for a radical overhaul of the club's internal structures.

Estudiantes' current first-team coach Diego Cagna has welcomed the ideas as an important step forward.

"We are in agreement with the campaign for Veron, the consolidation of the youth teams and the transition," Cagna told Ole. "Sebastian's arrival is very important and will help the club a lot. I want the best and this is very positive."

Daniel Romeo this week resigned as the club's technical secretary to smooth the way for Veron to come in, however Ole claims that Carlos Pachame, currently its youth football co-ordinator, is upset with the plans and has no intention of leaving.
