Sagna: I am 'happy' at Arsenal

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna claims he is 'happy' to play for the club amid speculation that he may become the next big name to leave after contract negotiations stalled.

Arsene Wenger rates defender Bacary Sagna highly
Arsene Wenger relies on Sagna's experience in defence

Sagna, 29, missed a large chunk of last season and he has suffered two broken legs over the past year and is now seeking a new contract at the Emirates with his current deal due to expire in 2014.

The Frenchman, who will fall foul of Arsene Wenger’s policy of handing only a one-year deal to anyone over the age of 30 next year, is reported to have been unhappy with the terms of the 12-month extension he has been offered and is seeking an improvement on his £60,000-a-week wages and a longer deal.

However, Sagna is not letting the situation impact his love for the club and is pleased to be back in the first-team again after his extended spell out.

"I'm very happy. I'm very happy to be back to football and to play for Arsenal,'' he told Arsenal's official website. "I'm looking forward to playing more games this season because I've been injured lately.''

Arsenal have suffered their worst start to a Premier League season, leaving them 10th in the table, five points off fourth place.

But the Gunners have at least qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League and Sagna believes their league form will also soon improve.

"It's a bit difficult at the moment because we wish we could win some games,'' Sagna added. "It's a tough month but we just need to stick together and get back to the basics and everything will be fine.

"We have quality players and a quality team. The fans support us until the end so we just have to push and try to win games.''
