Gomez hails Bundesliga strength

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez believes the Bundesliga is perhaps the best competition in Europe at the moment, given the performances of German teams in the Champions League recently.

Gomez and his team-mates sealed their place at the top of Group F with a 4-1 win over BATE Borisov on Wednesday evening. Borussia Dortmund and Schalke also topped their respective groups, and Gomez insists that is a sign of the Bundesliga's strength.

"All (three German teams) deserved to win their groups. It's nice to see that the Bundesliga is alive and catching up with the very best leagues," Gomez told the UEFA website.

"In terms of strength across the board, I'd even say it's the best at the moment. The top teams are all performing strongly in Europe."

Bayern Munich was the last Bundesliga team to win the Champions League in 2001.
