Miguel Calero on life support in Mexico

Former Colombian national team goalkeeper Miguel Calero was declared brain dead Monday night, said Pachuca soccer team officials via press release.

Calero is still receiving "intensive therapy under life support measures," the statement read.

Calero was hospitalized on Nov. 26 after suffering an apparent cerebral thrombosis at his home in Pachuca, Mexico.

The 41-year-old retired goalkeeper, who was a coach with the Pachuca team in the Mexican Football League, was taken to a Mexico City hospital via helicopter for treatment.

Calero retired from Mexican League action on Sept. 29, 2011 after suffering a venous thrombosis in his left arm. With Pachuca, he won three Mexican League titles and played for the Colombian national team from 1995-2007.

Information from Efe News Agency was used in this report.
