Andy Carroll out up to eight weeks
West Ham's on-loan striker Andy Carroll is out for up to eight weeks with a knee injury, manager Sam Allardyce confirmed Saturday.
Carroll, on a season-long loan from Liverpool, was left out of Saturday's Premier League game with Chelsea because of the injury he suffered in the midweek loss to Manchester United.
Carroll was replaced by Carlton Cole after 62 minutes of that game and Cole came into the starting lineup to play Chelsea.
"It's pretty severe. We didn't expect it to be quite as severe," Allardyce told BBC Sport. "It's going to be about six to eight weeks. It's a blow for us and Andy."
Having already missed a month because of a hamstring injury suffered against Fulham in September, Carroll had scored only once in 10 games for the Hammers.
"Liverpool use the same specialist as we do," Allardyce said. "The specialist has given this diagnosis of what to do and hopefully Andy will recover as quick as the specialist said he might."
