Redknapp: We need to show top six form

Harry Redknapp has claimed that QPR need to show European qualification form in order to save themselves from relegation this season.

The former Tottenham boss has taken over a side that find themselves bottom of the table with five points from 14 games and, judging from the maths of previous seasons, probably need 10 wins from their remaining 24 games.

"It's top form," Redknapp said. "We're talking about top six or seven form. That's what we have to show now it's like a handicap. We are way, way off. We have given points starts to everyone and we have to play catch-up. It will be hard, no-one kids themselves. It will be a difficult task but not impossible."

Redknapp, however, insisted that the season must be kick-started with a first win at home to fellow strugglers Aston Villa on Saturday.

"It will be massive for us," he added. "It's not about me. It's about picking up three points if we can; moving off the bottom and certainly getting closer to the pack. It's a big, big game. The atmosphere will be massive for us tomorrow; really push us on. We've got to get the three points.

"It will close the gap and put us on the tails of the teams in front of us. We can't afford to keep being cut adrift as it will be impossible then. It's a difficult enough situation as it is. But, you never know, do you, what can happen?"

Redknapp also stated that keeping QPR up would be among his finest achievements.

"This would be a fantastic feeling," he said. "I would get a lot of satisfaction from it if I cold play a part in keeping us up now. That's the ambition. You can only do your best, that is all you can do in life. If it works, great. If it doesn't, fine. At least you've tried. I could have stayed at home and played golf every day or waited for another job to come along, which it would have done, but when I met the people at QPR I just thought they were fantastic people and it is a good club to work for so I'm here to give it my best."

The new QPR manager also says he bears no grudge about his lost job, at Tottenham: "I don't think about the last year too much. I don't have any regrets or hard feelings about anything that has happened in my life. I don't know what you would be like if you lived like that. I wake up every day happy to be here and looking forward to another day."
