Moyes wants draws turned into wins

Everton manager David Moyes has warned his players that their season is in danger of fading away unless they start turning draws into wins.

• Blog: Another draw for Everton

Moyes is delighted with the way the team have been playing, but they visit Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday having won only one of their last eight games.

Six of those eight matches have been draws, stalling the European ambitions of a team who were second at the end of September, but have since dropped to sixth.

"I've been really pleased with how we've done," Moyes said. "I'm disappointed that we've not picked up a couple more wins, disappointed that we've maybe thrown away a few games that we shouldn't have done. But I'm not disappointed with how we're playing. We're playing very well.

"But I've always wanted to be a manager who says that winning is the important thing, and at the moment we're not winning, so that's what we've got to do."

Everton have an excellent record against City, having won five of their last six meetings. They had claimed four successive victories at the Etihad Stadium before losing 2-0 there early last season.

"We've found it tough against Manchester City, like every team does," Moyes said. "Manchester City are a really good team full of top stars from all round the world and that's why they won the league. To beat Manchester United [to the title], you're going to have to be very good, and Manchester City were.

"We tried something last year and I thought we played well at the Etihad. We didn't win but I thought we did a good job against them. We kept it tight for 70 minutes or so, but we couldn't keep it going. Then we got a good result on transfer deadline night against them, when we beat them 1-0 at Goodison.

"They have been tough games against Man City, but I have to say they're getting much tougher because of the team and the players they've got available to them."

Moyes hinted that striker Kevin Mirallas is still not ready to return from the hamstring injury suffered during the 2-1 win over Sunderland on November 10.

He also faces a nervous wait over the fitness of left-back Leighton Baines, who pulled his hamstring in the later stages of the game against Arsenal on Wednesday.

"I don't think we've got anybody coming back," Moyes said. "We've not got loads of injuries, but like every club, we've got injuries.

"I'm not sure how Leighton's going to be. I'm going to give him every chance but he's a big doubt."
