Wenger confident of turn in fortunes
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his side are ready to click into top gear and climb up the Premier League table in the run-up to Christmas.
Wenger has claimed a tough early season fixture list, that included away days at both Manchester and Merseyside clubs, has restricted his side's ambitions in the first third of the season.
But now the Gunners boss is eying up a run of form in the upcoming games against Swansea, West Brom, Reading and Wigan.
"We have had a lot of difficult away games and now we reach a moment in the season when we get a chance to push on with some home games," Wenger told Arsenal's official website.
"We will come back. Now we have six games, four at home, and if we do well in this block I think we have a chance to come back. Of course it is vital for us to do well in these games, but I believe this team has something special and they will begin to show this in the next few weeks."
Arsenal are 12 points behind league leaders Manchester United with just 14 games played this season, yet Wenger has suggested the form of the title favourites has not been much more impressive than that of his stuttering side.
"At the moment the two Manchester sides are leading, but they have not been spectacular but efficient, and they have made the maximum of the chances they have created," he said.
"For example, Manchester United have already lost three games and have lost in the Champions League as well. It is exactly what we have done but they took more points and had less draws than we did. That has been the difference until now."
Wenger has lavished praise on Swansea ahead of their visit to Emirates on Saturday, hailing the transfer dealings that have helped to establish the Welsh side as a Premier League force.
"They have bought intelligently and of course that gives them the basis they had last year, and the addition of the players they have brought in," he said. "They have Michu, Pablo Hernandez, Jonathan de Guzman, as well as keeping Britton, Rangel and the players at the back.
"They are a dangerous side throughout, and are having a good season. They are a complete unit, very creative, very technical and very mobile."
