Redknapp plays down transfer talk

Harry Redknapp has claimed he is not even looking at the January transfer window at the moment, and that bringing in another raft of new players may actually do more harm than good to a QPR team who may have "enough talent" to stay up already.

The Loftus Road side made 11 signings during the summer but their difficulty with integrating so many players has played a part in the fact they are now bottom of the table with only five points from 14 games. Redknapp has insisted he must concentrate on working on them for the moment.

He also explicitly stated there has been no inquiry made to Liverpool about Joe Cole.

"I'm not even looking at January. It's now. It's these games that will decide where we're going. If we don't pick some points and win then what's the point of trying to bring in players and get yourself a big wage bill for next year?

"I've never discussed players with anyone [at the club yet]. We just need to win some football matches. January is way off.

"I think we've got the players. There's enough talent here. Their attitude and ability I thought was excellent in training yesterday.

"I think we can do it. I've not come here to age myself another 10 years - I think it can be done. If I didn't, I wouldn't have come here."

Given Redknapp's famous propensity for making changes, though, such comments have to be taken with a raised eyebrow - especially since he commented so freely on a number of players linked to the club.

The most obvious was Aston Villa striker Darren Bent, who has been linked with a move to Loftus Road

"Darren Bent's a good player," Redknapp said. "They paid 20-odd million for him."

Loic Remy?

"I was interested in Remy at Tottenham but that was then. It's a different situation now. He would be expensive. It all depends where we are in January."

Cole?

"I signed Joe as an 11-year-old. I know him better than anyone. He's been a top player and I still think there's a top player in him. I like him very much as a player but there's been no inquiry from Liverpool at the moment.

"I'm surprised it hasn't worked out for Joe Cole at Liverpool. I tried to take him to Tottenham and he went to Liverpool in the end. I've had no contact with Joe or Brendan [Rodgers] or Joe's agent or anybody. I haven't even looked at targets."

And, finally, the biggest one, David Beckham.

"You couldn't say anything bad about Beckham. A top bloke and a fantastic player. I don't what David will do, but he'll be a fantastic asset for anybody."

Redknapp also stated that he can't bring any on-loan players back until January but that he may look to re-integrate the likes of Luke Young - who doesn't have a squad number and, as such, is not registered to play - at the turn of the year too.

"[Luke] is fit to re-join the squad next week. But he hasn't got a squad number. I wasn't here. He's always seemed a good lad but that's up to other people. I only take people as I find them.

"Everyone starts with a clean sheet."
