Jerome and Jones pushing for starts

Stoke striker Cameron Jerome's late match-winning cameo against Newcastle on Wednesday is unlikely to win him a starting spot against West Bromwich on Saturday.

A place will almost certainly be up for grabs in Tony Pulis' attack at The Hawthorns, with Peter Crouch set to undergo dental surgery today.

However, Kenwyne Jones is favourite for the role after replacing the club's leading scorer in the first half during the 2-1 win in midweek.

Jerome steered home Jones' knock-down for the 85th-minute winner soon after crossing for Jonathan Walters to head the equaliser.

"What we saw on Wednesday is exactly what we want Cameron to do because he can score," Stoke assistant manager Dave Kemp said. "You're obviously pleased for him when he takes his opportunity like that and, hopefully, it gives him a lift.

"There's competition for places but there is certainly a role for Cameron here and there always has been."

Kemp added: "Kenwyne has had some good sub appearances lately, including Wednesday, when he also made the kind of impact we want. But, if he gets the nod, he has got to take that chance and show he can be consistent."

Neither Jerome nor Jones have started a game this season, except for the Capital One Cup defeat to Swindon in August, and both have been the subject of speculation that they might be off in January.

Elsewhere, Michael Owen is now over his hamstring injury and is back in full training.
