Diouf: Ferguson a football legend

Hannover striker Mame Biram Diouf has praised his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

• Blog: Players with a point to prove

Diouf, 24, spent nearly three years under Ferguson at Old Trafford before moving to the Bundesliga club for under €2 million in January.

While the Senegal international struggled at United he has been a hit at Hannover, however, he claims he gained a lot from his time working under Ferguson.

"Alex Ferguson is a great manager, a football legend," Diouf told Bild. "But it was hard for me to understand him. He had such a strong Scottish accent. Sometimes I did not know what he said."

Diouf also says his time training with the likes of Wayne Rooney at United has improved him as a player.

"Wayne Rooney is an incredible striker," he said. "How he moves, and blocks the defender, and how he controls the ball. If you are in a team with those players, you can only profit from it. They teach you what to do."

In 20 Bundesliga appearances since his move to Hannover Diouf has scored ten goals, with his latest coming in the club's 2-0 win over Furth this week.

The striker has yet to be on target away from Hannover's Niedersachsenstadion, netting all of his goals at home - something that is not bothering the player.

"It is better to score than not to score," Diouf said. "And I score my goals. It does not matter if I score at home or away. All that matters is I do score and that I can help the team."

Hannover are enjoying a strong season, currently sitting sixth in Bundesliga and having qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

"Everything is possible," Diouf said. "We must play every game like a final."
