Del Piero: Sydney boosted by new coach

Alessandro Del Piero believes the appointment of Frank Farina as Sydney FC coach will help the Sky Blues get their A-League season on track.

Sydney have lost their last four games and sit bottom of the ladder after eight rounds, increasing the significance of Farina's first match in charge against Melbourne Heart on Sunday.

But Del Piero insists the stability of having a full time coach on board will allow the players to focus on the field.

"For sure it will be a warm welcome," he said. "We hope we can do a good job with him. We need to improve, we need to win and we hope we can do that and build something for the rest of the season. He will bring great passion and knowledge. He will do everything he can."

Del Piero has shown obvious signs of frustration in the last month, with Sydney conceding 16 goals in their last four outings.

The 38-year-old told reporters he has never lost more than three consecutive games in his career, but backs his side to break back into form.

"We have had a lot of injuries and been unlucky, but what happened in the last three months doesn't matter," Del Piero said. "We have to think about our situation now. We have a short time to prepare for Sunday. We have a long season again.

"We have 19 games again, that is why we have the chance to make the playoffs and see what might happen. We need to play with passion, with heart first of all...and to win. We have lost a lot of games but the team hasn't lost its passion for the work, this is the most important thing."
