Walcott feeling 'deadly' in front of goal

Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has claimed he feels "deadly" in front of goal after his latest Premier League strike earned his side a point in the 1-1 draw at Everton on Wednesday night.

• Blog: Time to accelerate the season
• Blog: Good result, but issues remain
• Whalley: Frustration for both sides

Walcott took his tally for this campaign into double figures with his strike 53 seconds into the game at Goodison Park after he surged towards the box, played a one-two with Aaron Ramsey and fired in a shot which looped up off Tony Hibbert and over goalkeeper Tim Howard.

The England international told Arsenal's official website that his confidence in front of goal has never been higher.

"Those are the sort of positions that this season and in the last few seasons I have been quite deadly in," he said. "When given a little sniff I am able to take it now. I am very happy with the way I have started and it has got to continue.

"I think last season you could see a lot of glimpses of that, a lot of assists but like, but I just want to play and hopefully I've shown everybody what I can do now. I scored 11 last season and 13 the year before, so I want more this time.

"My general play is getting better as well. The assists are coming now, which is fantastic, and I am enjoying my football. Hopefully I can take this form into Saturday's game (against Swansea)."

Walcott's optimism ahead of the weekend fixture against Swansea at the Emirates Stadium was tempered by manager Arsene Wenger's suggestion that his No.14 picked up an ankle injury at Goodison Park. The 23-year-old was making his first appearance since recovering from a shoulder problem that kept him out of the games against Montpellier and Aston Villa earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Wenger has confirmed there is 'nothing to report' in the club's ongoing bid to tie Walcott down to a new contract, with the end of December deadline the Arsenal boss placed on negotiations now little more than a month away.
