Zico leaves Iraq job after dispute
Brazil legend Zico has left his job as Iraq coach following a dispute with the Iraqi Football Association.
Iraq are currently in third place in Asia's Group B with five points from five matches behind Japan and Australia, but the Brazilian has quit his role after accusing the country's governing body of an unspecified breach of contract.
"I have told the international federation (FIFA) and the Iraqi federation that I consider my contract void due to the IFA's failure to comply with its conditions," he said in a statement. "I will give more details soon.''
Zico, who lasted just over a year in the position and lost only five of his 21 games in charge, will be immediately linked with the vacant Brazil job after the departure of Mano Menezes last week.
