Heldt: Arsenal can't afford Huntelaar

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has revealed that striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is available to any club willing to pay for his services in January, but he doesn't believe it will be Arsenal.

Huntelaar, 29, has been a revelation in Germany after failed spells at Real Madrid and AC Milan and bagged 29 goals in 32 Bundesliga games for Schalke last season, while he has started this campaign in impressive form.

However, the former Ajax striker's contract expires at the end of this season, meaning he will available on a free transfer in the summer or for around £6 million in January.

Arsenal are one of the teams linked with a move for Huntelaar, but Heldt believes that they would not be able to match Schalke's price.

"There have been no offers or any sign of Klaas-Jan leaving," he told the Sun. "If someone comes to us six months before the expiry date, and has a lot of money, we will deal with it. From Arsenal circles we hear there is no money anyway."

The Gunners announced an improved £150m sponsorship deal with Emirates which would see them gain an extra £30m per season, however there is no guarantee that Arsene Wenger would be able to use this money for transfers.
