Cardiff continue at top

Malky Mackay's Cardiff maintained their grip on top spot in the Championship, but only after fighting for the final half-hour with 10 men to earn a 1-1 draw at Derby.

The Bluebirds missed the chance to put clear air between themselves and their promotion rivals despite Heidar Helguson giving them an 11th-minute lead when he followed up a Mark Hudson shot.

Craig Noone was dismissed in the 63rd minute for a foul on James O'Connor and six minutes later Theo Robinson struck an equaliser for the improving home side.

Crystal Palace missed the chance to reclaim spot as they were held to a goalless draw at Hull. It was another blow for new boss Ian Holloway, whose 100 per cent start had come to an end in Saturday's loss at Leeds.

Middlesbrough recovered from their shock weekend loss to Bristol City and bounced back up to third with a 3-0 home win over Huddersfield.

Scott McDonald opened the scoring for Boro in the 28th minute and, after Emmanuel Ledesma made it two from a 66th minute free-kick, McDonald added his second with five minutes left.

Fellow contenders Leicester fell to a 1-0 defeat at improving Leeds, for whom Luciano Becchio scored the only goal with a third-minute penalty after Jeff Schlupp fouled Samuel Byram.

Kenny Jackett's Millwall continued their impressive recent form with a 1-0 win at Wolves giving them their sixth win out of seven. Andy Keogh struck a 79th-minute winner after being set up by Chris Wood.

At the bottom, there was more woe for Sheffield Wednesday who slumped to their fifth straight defeat with a 4-1 Hillsborough humiliation at the hands of Watford.

Michail Antonio gave Wednesday a third-minute lead, but goals from Fernando Forestieri, Alex Geijo, Troy Deeney and Mark Yeates heaped more pressure on Owls boss Dave Jones.

But Peterborough stayed bottom of the table after a 2-0 defeat at Charlton. Ricardo Fuller blasted a 77th-minute opener and Yann Kermorgant scored the second for the Addicks five minutes from time.

Ipswich jumped out of the bottom three with a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest. Guirane N'Daw put the hosts ahead and, despite an equaliser from Dexter Blackstock, Ipswich won it late on with goals from Luke Hyam and Daryl Murphy.

Barnsley managed a point in a 1-1 home draw with Burnley. Charlie Austin headed his 18th goal of the season after three minutes for the Clarets, but Marcus Tudgay headed Barnsley level before half-time.

Bristol City remained in trouble after a 2-0 loss at Brighton, for whom Dean Hammond and Andrea Orlandi scored the goals before half-time.

And Blackpool and Birmingham shared the points in a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road, Tom Ince's 17th-minute opener for the hosts cancelled out when Curtis Davies headed home a Wade Elliott corner on 48 minutes.
