Wenger undecided over Henry

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied that he has spoken to former striker Thierry Henry over a potential loan move.

The Frenchman has been training with the Gunners at London Colney after his MLS season with the New York Red Bulls finished on November 8.

With Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh set to leave for the African Nations Cup in January, Wenger has admitted the club may be in the market for a striker and he looked to have confirmed his interest earlier in the week.

"He has been practising with us," Wenger said. "Will I sign him again in January? I don't know. I don't rule it out. He is sharp.

But on Thursday he changed tack and played down a move for the Arsenal legend.

"I just spoke about that because people asked me," Wenger told the club's official website. "I said I don't rule it out because he's in good shape but I haven't made up my mind yet.

"I haven't spoken to Thierry about it. I just answered a question honestly that I have not completely decided how I will sort it out in my head. We are maybe looking at a striker because Gervinho is going to the Africa Cup of Nations."

Henry enjoyed a successful loan spell at Emirates Stadium last season, scoring the winner on his debut as Arsenal saw off Leeds in the FA Cup. He also scored in his final league game, a 2-1 win against Sunderland.

But despite returning to North London to train with his former club, Henry has not held talks with Wenger over the possibility of a third spell at the club.

Red Bulls' sporting director Andy Roxburgh has played down the possibility of a move. He told the Daily Star: "In general terms, I wouldn't say it would be something we would favour. We wouldn't be too positive about it.

"I think the length of the season we have here, when they get the break over the Christmas, New Year period, they need to regenerate themselves."

"Right now, no-one has requested for anyone to go on loan. It depends on the individual, it depends on the circumstances.

"You cannot say never on that one. But it's unlikely, at the moment that would happen."
