Pulis praises striker Sidibe's courage

Stoke manager Tony Pulis has praised Mamady Sidibe for showing the bravery to battle back from career-threatening injury problems.

Pulis has allowed Sidibe to join Championship Sheffield Wednesday on loan for a month after an 18-month battle to return from serious knee and Achilles injuries.

Since 2010, Sidibe has twice snapped the Achilles tendon in his right leg and, after also suffering a dislocated knee, said he had contemplated retiring.

But last week he confirmed his return to fitness, playing 82 minutes and scoring in an Under-21 game against Spurs, and Pulis hopes he will succeed at Wednesday.

"This is fantastic news for Mama, and everyone here wishes him well over the next few weeks at Hillsborough," the manager said.

"It's been a long, long road back and an incredibly tough time for him, but he's now got an excellent chance to get out on a football pitch again and play for a top club at Championship level. I know he will be in good hands playing for Dave Jones.

"Mama deserves all the luck in the world after what he's been through, but I am sure he will just be happy to get back to what he does best."

Sidibe completed the loan switch in time for him to be available for the Owls' home game against Leicester City this weekend.
