Allardyce would like Beckham

Sam Allardyce has revealed he would welcome David Beckham at West Ham as the former England captain plots his next move.

Beckham, 37, confirmed on Monday he will leave Los Angeles Galaxy after he plays his final game for the club against Houston Dynamo in the MLS Cup final on December 1. A host of clubs across the globe want Beckham, from Europe to China to Brazil and Australia.

With West Ham United co-owner David Gold expressing his belief that Beckham would be a good capture for the East London club, who are currently seventh in the Premier League table, boss Allardyce has added in the Sun: "Yes I would like to see a fit David Beckham at West Ham. But he would need to come and do a fitness test like any other player."

Gold had earlier been quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror: "He was an ambassador for the London 2012 bid and it would be a fantastic statement if he came to us.

"He's an East End boy and it would be a fitting end to his career. We've also been mindful of his value as an ambassador to help us secure the Olympic Stadium."
