West Ham eye Beckham deal

West Ham United co-owner David Gold believes it would be a "fantastic statement" if the Hammers managed to secure the signature of David Beckham.

Beckham, 37, revealed on Monday that he intends to leave Los Angeles Galaxy after he plays his final game for the club on December 1.

Paris Saint Germain had been linked with a swoop for the former England captain but head coach Carlo Ancelotti has since quashed the rumours.

West Ham have previously been mooted as potential suitors for the midfielder and Gold would be delighted to offer him a route back to the Premier League.

"He was an ambassador for the London 2012 bid and it would be a fantastic statement if he came to us," Gold said in the Mirror.

"He's an East End boy and it would be a fitting end to his career. We've also been mindful of his value as an ambassador to help us secure the Olympic Stadium."

Although West Ham are keen on Beckham the club could face stiff competition from Asia as ESPN understands that one offer on the table in China stands to see the ex-Manchester United player earn more than £1 million-a-month, with talks on-going.
