Allegri coy on qualification hopes

Massimiliano Allegri is keeping his side grounded ahead of AC Milan's Champions League trip to Anderlecht on Wednesday.

A win for Milan could guarantee them progression to the knockout stages of the competition if Zenit St Petersburg fail to beat Malaga, but Allegri insists the Italians cannot get too ahead of themselves.

"It is going to be a very difficult game, just like all the ones we have faced recently," he said. "I have allways said the Champions League group would be balanced and it will be until the end.

"By the time we play tomorrow, we will already know Zenit's result against Malaga, but I thin qualification will not be decided until the final game.

"Of course I am not satisfied with our points tally in this group, but if we have these results then it means we deserve them."

Milan have been boosted by the return of Alexandre Pato from injury and Allegri will be relying heavily on his attack.

"Pato is a player who is important on a European level," Allegri said. "This could be his game. Kevin-Prince Boateng had a good performance in terms of intensity and technique on Saturday, which was a good sign for him and for us."

The Rossoneri currently sit 12th in the Serie A with just four wins from their first 13 matches, but defender Philippe Mexes believes Milan can put their bad form behind them.

"The Champions League is a different tournament [to Serie A] entirely and we are in a very balanced group," Mexes said. "Anderlecht have shown they've got quality, but we will all fight together to get through to the next round.

"Things are not going the way they should. We lacked some good fortune but also make individual mistakes. The only way out of this is to stay united and work together in the same direction."
