Arsenal legend Henry set to rejoin Gunners

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is considering another loan deal to bring Gunners legend Thierry Henry back to the club for a third spell in January.

As Arsenal's all-time record goal scorer, Henry's status as a living legend has long been assured, but there may still be another chapter in his remarkable Gunners story to be written.

Henry played seven games for Arsenal last season as he was allowed to leave New York Red Bulls on a temporary basis during the MLS off-season and Wenger is eager to explore the possibility of a rerun of one of the most nostalgic Premier League stories of 2012.

"Thierry has practiced with us three times and while I don't know whether we will look at another loan deal, I don't rule it out," Wenger said. "I don't know if that is what he wants. He is looking sharp, I can say that.

"You know what Thierry brings. He gives you hope, especially when he comes off the bench and, of course, he is a great communicator. He is a very intelligent guy and of course he can give advice to the young players because he was in their position when he arrived here first. We will make a decision on this in January."

Henry was a delighted spectator as Arsenal thumped North London rivals Tottenham 5-2 on Saturday and Wenger suggests the imminent departure of Gervinho and the possible sale of Marouane Chamakh would make the temporary deal for the 35-year-old a perfect fit once again.

"I always resisted bringing former players back after they had left, but last year was different," he said. "We lost Gervinho due to an injury and the connection with Thierry was perfect. This year we also lose Gervinho as they are playing the African Nations Cup two years in a row. So we will be confronted with shortage in attack, especially if Chamakh goes."

Wenger would be relying heavily on Olivier Giroud to lead their line if Gervinho and Chamakh were removed from their list of attacking options, while there remains a doubt over the future of another Arsenal striking option in Theo Walcott.

He may only be used as a super-sub if he does play for his beloved Arsenal once again, but the temporary lift Henry's presence would give the club and its fans may make the deal worthwhile for all concerned.
