Hughes survives QPR 'crisis talks'

Mark Hughes remains QPR's manager, despite rumours suggesting he had been sacked after meeting with the club's chief executive on Monday.

• QPR keen on Granqvist

Hughes traded the training ground for the board room as he began talks with Philip Beard to discuss his future at Loftus Road following recent calls for him to resign as QPR boss.

Kia Joorabchian, Hughes' representative, denied claims that the 49-year-old received his marching orders, telling BBC: "These rumours are not true at all."

The club's head of media and communications, Ian Taylor, tweeted: "Rumours suggesting Mark Hughes has been sacked as QPR manager tonight [Monday] are not true."

QPR's 3-1 home loss to Southampton on Saturday had fans calling for Hughes to resign from his position, prompting chairman Tony Fernandes to publicly support the under-fire manager.

Hughes encouraged the QPR board to look to the future and avoid a further disturbance to their season by appointing a new manager and Junior Hoilett also believes team unity is essential to improving results.

"Everybody in the dressing room was hugely disappointed with the result," Hoilett said. "We're all really disappointed and frustrated with how things are going at the moment, but we will work hard to put it right.

"I can understand the fans' frustrations. We're as frustrated as they are because we want to change this around and climb the table. We've got to stick together as a team."
