Kiessling disappointed by snub

Bayer Leverkusen striker Stefan Kiessling took a swipe at Germany manager Joachim Low after scoring his 21st league goal of the year in the 2-0 win against Schalke.

Kiessling, 28, has been given the cold shoulder by Low, not having pulled on the national shirt since the 2010 World Cup.

Remarkably, he was left out the latest Germany squad to face Netherlands despite Miroslav Klose pulling out and Mario Gomez not being deemed fit enough. Instead of calling up the former Nurnberg man, Low chose to play without a striker and opted for Mario Gotze in the 'false nine' postion.

"I've taken notice of Kiessling's recent performances," Low said about the striker before the game, before explaining that he wanted to try something different.

And Kiessling was far from impressed with Low's decision to ignore him once again, even without a fit striker in the squad.

"It was remarkable that Germany was left without a striker," he told Kicker. "But it is not my call. I've read that Jogi Low took notice of me. What happens next is not my call."

Kiessling's 21 goals in 2012 has not been matched by any other German striker but it seems the Leverkusen man has given up all hope of being picked again by Low.

"I did not expect Low to call me," he said. "I am a person that needs to be content. And I am totally content with what's happening in Leverkusen right now.

"I don't have any thoughts on that issue."
