Stroppa resigns from Pescara post

Pescara head coach Giovanni Stroppa has resigned in the aftermath of Sunday's 1-0 Serie A defeat at Siena.

Pescara had two men sent off after Francesco Valiani scored the only goal of the game to condemn the promoted side to their eighth defeat of the season.

A statement on the club's official website read: "At the end of the game, Giovanni Stroppa handed his resignation from his position of head coach at Pescara to president Daniele Sebastiani and director of sport (Daniele) Delli Carri."

Stroppa was appointed manager of Pescara in June, replacing Zdenek Zeman after he made the move Roma, but the former AC Milan and Italy midfielde did not deem a return of just three league wins from their opening 12 matches of the campaign acceptable.

Pescara director of sport Daniele Delli Carri later said: "Stroppa has decided to resign, he no longer has the right spirit to continue and we accepted the resignation. "Now we have to reflect on the situation. We didn't expect this, despite the bad performance with responsibility shared out between players and coach. Nobody thought about sacking him here. Today we did see the worst Pescara performance of the season.

"Do we have names for the replacement? I won't stand here listing them, as it would be inopportune and we have to get together to discuss it. A resignation is unusual nowadays, but it seems there are still people out there willing to take responsibility for their mistakes."
