Allegri welcomes Berlusconi visit

AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri says Silvio Berlusconi's visit to the club's training ground on Friday was "very important" and hopes it will inspire his faltering side.

• Blog: Milan's fantasy

The club president landed at Milanello by helicopter and spoke to every player before addressing the squad as a whole – something which Allegri believes may give his side a much-needed lift ahead of their trip to title-chasing Napoli.

"The visit of the president is very important and it will help to stimulate us. He understands that this is a difficult time and he urged us to do better," the Milan boss said at his press conference ahead of Saturday's match.

"I spoke with him after the Fiorentina loss as he wanted to understand the situation. It isn't a matter of formation, we have to be in the right frame of mind and stop conceding goals."

Allegri's future has been questioned after a poor start to the season, and he knows he faces a crucial month on both the domestic and European front.

Defeat at Fiorentina last weekend left the Rossoneri 13th in Serie A, but a win could have put them as high as seventh and restored some much-needed belief to the ranks.

"We're really angry because getting a good result against Fiorentina would have given us some continuity in our results," Allegri added.

"We've left a pile of points on our journey so far, but we have the time to get back on the right path. There is an important month ahead of us with eight games, two of those fundamental Champions League ties.

The trip to third-placed Napoli is another difficult test for Milan and one that needs the ailing club to pull together as a team if they are to win against the odds.

"Napoli are unbeaten at home, they have excellent qualities and they play well on the counter-attack," Allegri said. "We'll have to be alert and play with intensity. We are not in a position to play badly and win, we have to play as a team."
