Bassong: We don't fear Manchester United

Sebastien Bassong has accused many Premier League sides of being 'scared' to play Manchester United and the defender insists Norwich will not take the same approach this weekend.

Bassong, 26, has been a standout for a Norwich side looking for just their third win of the season when they face United at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Bassong will be tasked with marking the in-form Robin van Persie and while he admires United's attack, he believes it is important not to be too cautious like many teams that have played the league leaders.

"It will be really hard to stop Manchester United, but I think we can do it," Bassong said. "Van Persie is a good player, he finished as top scorer last year and is in good form now. He has great touch, great quality on the ball. He has scored against my teams before.

"Even if he does not have time, he can score goals, he can smell the football and knows where to go, just like Rooney, they know where to move on the pitch. They are high level players.

"But whether it is him, Rooney, Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, no matter who is up front, they will be quality. Manchester United can scare some people befoer the game has started, but I am sure it will not be the case with us."

Bassong has only played nine games for Norwich this season after being signed following the Canaries' 5-0 defeat to Fulham on the opening day.

Since his first appearance, Norwich have only conceded eight goals, compared to the ten they leaked in the opening two games, but Bassong is refusing to take the credit.

"Our defensive performances have been spot on, but that is because the team have been playing all together." he said. "But it is not just about me. It is the way the manager likes the team and the work we put in at training.

"We have have been tight at the back, the front from Grant Holt to the keeper. When you are solid at the back, you will always get a chance to score."
