Chivas USA eyes LA venue

Chivas USA owner Jorge Vergara said he has no plans to move the Major League Soccer club from Los Angeles, despite multiple offers from other cities.

"A city in Texas is offering us the moon and the stars but it's very clear why we chose Los Angeles. We paid extra to be in Los Angeles when we joined MLS. We are going to stay here. We have no intentions of moving away from Los Angeles," Vergara, who took over full ownership of the team in August, said during an MLS press conference in Los Angeles.

However, Vergara said his goal is to find the team its own stadium. The team currently shares digs at the Home Depot Center with the LA Galaxy.

"It's clear that we need our own home like we have in Mexico," he said on Mlssoccer.com in reference to Chivas de Guadalajara.

Before making the move to Estadio Omnilife, Chivas de Guadalajara shared the Estadio Jalisco with local rival Atlas.

Vergara also said he would like to see the team develop closer ties to Chivas Mexico.

"[There was] a divorce from Chivas Mexico, not because of personal problems but that's just how it happened," Vergara said. "We want to convert Chivas USA into the prodigal son that now returns to Chivas Mexico, to take advantage of the 106 years of experience of Chivas Mexico."

According to Mlssoccer.com, the two teams are already sharing resources. José Luis "El Guero" Real has been named supervisor of soccer operations while continuing to serve in a front-office role with Guadalajara. Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has served as an advisor to Vergara and helped the club hire John van 't Schip as head coach in Mexico.
