Marotta: Pogba omission "educational"

Juventus director general Beppe Marotta has labelled the decision to omit Paul Pogba from the side which beat Pescara 6-1 as "educational" rather than for "punishment".

• Rzouki: Another emphatic response

Pogba, 19, was left out of the match day squad by manager Antonio Conte after being late for training twice this week.

The former Manchester United midfielder has impressed since arriving in Turin this summer and was widely tipped to start against Pescara but has been pulled up by the Italian league leaders and warned about his future conduct.

Marotta told Sky Italia: "There are some rules to be respected and the leader of the group, who is Antonio Conte, decided on this course of action. It is not punishment, but rather educational for a young player like Pogba."

Meanwhile Fabio Quagliarella, who hit a hat-trick against Pescara, has claimed the Bianconeri's shock defeat to Inter Milan last weekend, fired them on to prove a point against the Serie A minnows.

Speaking to Sky he said: "It's the first hat-trick of my career, so I will treasure the match ball. I dedicate the goals to my mother, who is in hospital after undergoing surgery.

"The important thing was to win and we really, really won. We showed that it is possible to have a setback against a great team like Inter, but we're still here. That defeat was just a stumble and if anything it made us stronger, as we are right back on track with the hunger we need."
