Clarke wants more from Baggies travels

Steve Clarke wants to put an end to West Bromwich Albion's miserable away form to prevent the club becoming over-reliant on results at the Hawthorns.

Fifth-placed West Brom travel to Wigan on Saturday still searching for their first Premier League win on their travels, and need to remedy a record of just two points from their four away games so far this season.

It is in stark contrast to a run of five wins and one defeat in front of their own supporters so far this campaign and head coach Clarke wants an improvement, starting against Roberto Martinez's side.

"We have not managed to win away and that is a bit of a concern. We have got to work a little bit harder in finding a way to win matches away from the Hawthorns," said Clarke.

"We need to do that. We have had a good return, especially at home, but an improvement in away results would be good. It is something I believe will happen if we carry on performing the way we have away from The Hawthorns.

"Apart from the performance against Fulham, we have been pretty good and we need to carry on that belief in ourselves away from home and the results will come."

Albion may have to try to break their duck on their travels without first choice goalkeeper Ben Foster, who is doubtful because of a groin injury. The former England international has been sent to see a German specialist in a bid to cure a problem which has troubled him for around five months.

Clarke rates Foster's chances of playing at Wigan as '60-40' and Boaz Myhill is on stand-by to make his first appearance of the season after recovering from a broken thumb. Clarke has no doubts his back-up 'keeper is up to the task if Foster is ruled out.

"Boaz is now fine and 100% fit," Clarke said. "If he is needed he's perfectly capable and ready. We've got good back-up keepers here. Myhill played on loan in the Championship last season had a really good season. He trains well every game and if I have to rely on Boaz to play, I would be happy with that.".

James Morrison missed last Monday night's 2-0 win over Southampton because of injury, but he returned to training on Thursday and is expected to return to the starting line-up at the DW Stadium.
