Stamaccioni faces first Inter injury crisis

Inter Milan coach Andrea Stramaccioni declared his "faith in the squad" as he faces the first real injury crisis of his Inter career.

Inter will be without both Andrea Ranocchia and Walter Samuel after they were ruled out for up to three weeks.

Suffering calf and groin strains respectively, the duo have been essential to Inter's new three-man backline and Stramaccioni will be forced to come up with a solution without long-term absentee Cristian Chivu. The young coach appeared untroubled, however, believing whoever he selects will perform well enough.

"I have faith in the squad, as they are capable of putting the right character and approach on to the field," Stramaccioni said in his press conference ahead of Inter's Europa League match against Partizan Belgrade. "This is the first time we can really talk about an emergency situation so I have to change some things."

That is likely to provide the first opportunity for Mattias Silvestre to prove himself following his move from Palermo and the 28-year-old – limited to just three appearances so far this term - knows he must show he is ready to step up.

The defender told Gazzetta dello Sport: "I've had less opportunities to play recently but the team has been doing well so it's only right that they should continue. In any case, it's up to the boss to decide these things. I'm always ready to help when needed.

"I'm aware that I've joined a great team where there is a lot of competition for places, I've answered when I've been called upon and I try to make the most of every opportunity I get. I've always had a very open relationship with the coach and I'll give it everything I've got."
